Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage states that the distribution of organic fertilizer required for paddy farmers during the Maha season will commence today.

The decision was taken at a meeting between State Minister Shasheendra Rajapaksa, Deputy Commissioners of Agrarian Services, District Directors of Agriculture and Fertilizer Officers.

Accordingly, the distribution of fertilizer will commence from the Ampara District and it has been decided at this discussion to distribute the fertilizer in other areas in parallel.

It has also been decided to give priority to the distribution of organic fertilizer to the paddy growing districts of Ampara, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Moneragala, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Hambantota, Kurunegala and Puttalam.

However, in the last few days, farmers have been protesting and demanding that chemical fertilizer be provided for their cultivations.
