Sri Lanka Aims for 70% Renewable Energy by 2030!

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy has projected that by 2030, a substantial 70% of the country's electricity supply will be sourced from renewable energy—specifically wind, solar, and hydropower.

A high-ranking officer confirmed that the necessary preparations are already underway to achieve this ambitious goal.

Furthermore, the senior official revealed that tenders have been called for, for the establishment of a 50 MW wind power plant in Mannar.

Presently, Sri Lanka's daily electricity demand stands at 48 gigawatt hours.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Power and Energy anticipates that by 2030, the annual electricity demand will be around 28,000 gigawatt hours.

For context, Sri Lanka's current annual electricity demand is 16,000 gigawatt hours.
