Speaking to the Media, GMOA Assistant Secretary, Dr. Samantha Ananda said it could be seen in Senaratne’s claims that the SLSI has neglected its original purpose of protecting consumers. 

“Checking and making sure that consumer goods in the market were of standard quality is the main duty of the SLSI. It is not their job to safeguard businessmen and companies who produce contaminated products. If the Director General of SLSI claimed that many products in the market contain harmful chemicals, it is clear the SLSI has neglected the objective of the Institution,” he added. 

Meanwhile,  Dr. Ananda also demanded that the reports pertaining to the investigation into  allegations against Senaratne with regard to contaminated Salmon consignments and soap which reportedly contained harmful chemicals be revealed.

Dr. Ananda also alleged that Senaratne has recruited employees to the SLSI violating recruitment procedure.  These views were expressed at a Media briefing yesterday (5).
