Coconut oil bowsers from Dankotuwa to GA
Samples of the coconut oil from the two bowsers which were apprehended by the Police yesterday (30), at a oil mill near Dankotuwa town are planned to be handed over to the Government Analyst, Customs Department and the Sri Lanka Standards Institution today (31).
It was revealed that the two bowsers which were found yesterday carried imported unrefined coconut oil.
A senior officer attached to the Dankotuwa Police stated that the bowers belong to one of the three companies that imported coconut oil that contains harmful toxins and that the stock of coconut oil in the bowsers were imported from Malaysia.
It was revealed that among the 13 containers of coconut oil that contained harmful toxins, the majority belonging to the same company that the bowsers belong to.
The vehicles were sealed by the police, while investigations are being conducted to identify whether the bowsers were brought to Dankotuwa to be concealed.
However, Dr. Thilak Siriwardena, Director of the Food Safety Unit of the Ministry of Health said that about 95 containers of coconut oil containing the carcinogen of aflatoxin were found between the end of last year and the beginning of this year
