Assaulting toddler in Jaffna : 3 arrested, more information revealed
Investigations have revealed that the woman who was arrested in Jaffna on charges of beating her 09-months-old toddler with a cane, had orchestrated the incident, The Sunday Times Online reported.
The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said the 24-year-old woman had beaten her son in order to obtain money from the child’s father who is currently employed in the Middle East.
The NCPA said the incident had occurred at a house in the Navalady area in Ariyalai, Jaffna yesterday.
Investigations were launched after video footage of the assault was shared on social media and was brought to the attention of the NCPA.
The woman, and two other members of her family were arrested today on charges of orchestrating the incident to obtain money from her husband.
Meanwhile, the toddler has been taken into Police custody.
The suspects will be produced before the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court today.
The Jaffna Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
