Kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls released

Governor of the Nigerian state of Zamfara stated that the schoolgirls that were abducted from a boarding school on were released by the kidnappers.

Speaking further he noted that no ransom was paid for the safe return of the schoolgirls.

During a raid that was carried out by hundreds of gunmen on the Government Girls Secondary School in remote Jangebe village, a group of girls was abducted. The police initially believed that 317 students were kidnapped, but the Governor later confirmed that those 279 schoolgirls were abducted.

Government officials had been in talks with the kidnappers – known as bandits – following Nigeria’s third school attack in less than three months.
