Presidential Commission appointed to probe Sri Lanka Customs

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed a Commission of Inquiry to study the current situation of the Sri Lanka Customs Department and make recommendations to increase its productivity.

The Commission is chaired by Supreme Court Judge Shiran Gunaratne.

Court of Appeal Judge Priyantha Fernando, High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank K.M. Siriwardena, Senior Adviser Dr. Sanath Jayanetti and former Additional Director General of Customs P.A. Dias are other members of the Commission

It is the responsibility of the Commission to make recommendations to provide an efficient service while preventing various allegations and alleged irregularities against the Customs.

The President has directed the Commission to summon the views of the people and other parties as well as to review the proposals of the Customs Trade Unions
