Eighteen persons arrested in connection with an assault on two police officers in the Madangahawatta area in Moratuwa have been remanded until the 12th of next month.

Police stated that there were 10 women among them.

According to information received by the police last night, the two officers had gone to the Madangahawatta area to resolve a clash between the two parties.

The officers were attacked during this time. 

One of the police officers who sustained serious head injuries is currently receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Colombo National Hospital.

The other police officer sustained serious injuries to his leg and was admitted to the Kalubowila Hospital, police stated.

Meanwhile, a woman has been arrested in the Nugegoda area with two foreign made firearms.

This was during an investigation carried out by the Police Special Task Force.

The woman was handed over to the Kirulapone Police with the two firearms and the police are conducting further investigations.
