Colombage says not ready to surrender at UNHRC without a fight

Foreign Secretary Admiral Jayanath Colombage says the government of Sri Lanka will not surrender without a fight at the UNHRC sessions that opens in Geneva today.

The Foreign Secretary said the government planned to express its concerns to the UNHRC ‘logically and with facts’ pointing out ‘factual errors, errors in law and errors in perception.’

He was referring to United Nations Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet’s report that is to be formally presented to the Human Rights Council on February 24.

Sri Lanka is to defend its record on human rights and related accountability at the 46th session, that runs till March 23, and Colombage while acknowledging it will be a difficult time, reiterated Sri Lanka was not ready to surrender without a fight.
