An extensive research on the ancient road system to be conducted
The Department of Archeology has decided to conduct extensive research on the ancient road system of the country.
No formal study has been done on the old road system in the country so far, according to Director-General Prof. Anura Manatunga.
A lot of important information about the development of culture in the country and the functioning of the economy can be found through researching the ancient road systems, the professor further added.
Historical sources confirm the existence of a system of roads that gradually expanded from the Anuradhapura era to the Kandyan era, according to the professor.
Accordingly, the exploration will be based on the written sources on the ancient road system
