11 deaths due to road accidents in last 24 hours

The police stated that within the last 24 hours, 11 deaths due to road accidents were reported.

The cause for eight deaths were road accidents that took place yesterday (27), while three other persons succumbed to injuries that they sustained during previous road accidents.

The 11 deaths included four passengers, three pedestrians and four motorcyclists.

Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana stated that there is high tendency for pedestrians and motorcyclists to be involved.

Two women were killed in a van accident in Kekirawa yesterday and it has been revealed that the cause of the accident was the driver falling asleep. Thirteen persons travelling in the van were injured in the accident.

The police stated that, in an analysis of these accidents, it was revealed that drivers falling asleep, driving under influence, reckless driving and driving without any regard to road signs and other rules as causes for these accidents.
