49 firearms of Mahara Prison in court custody
The Ragama police had briefly taken custody of 49 firearms from the Mahara Prison in connection with investigations into the recent clash there.
According to prison spokesman Chandana Ekanayake, these included 21 T-47 rifles, 10 T-56 rifles, 11 repeater weapons and seven 9 mm pistols.
A top official at Ragama police told Hiru News the firearms were handed over to the magistrate’s court at Wattala.
The court is hearing the case into the 29 November incident, in which 11 inmates of Mahara Prison were killed and 107 others injured.
