Final decision on when to conduct O/L exam today or tomorrow
The Minister of Education Prof. GL Peiris has stated that the final decision on when the GCE Ordinary Level Examination will be held will be taken today (01) or tomorrow (02).
The Minister pointed out that under the current situation, about 50 percent of the students studying in Grade 11 are currently unable to pursue their education.
The GCE Ordinary Level Examination was earlier scheduled to be held from January 18 to 27.
He stated, “621,000 students in our country are appearing for the GCE Ordinary Level Examination this year. The problem with that is that about 50 percent of schools in this country did not conduct Grade 11 classes in 2020. But all these schoolchildren generally sit for the same exam. Therefore, we hope to take a decision in this regard within two days after discussions with the relevant sectors to ensure a fair examination. If the examination cannot be held, the new date will be fixed by giving those children 6 weeks to prepare for the examination. ”
