LPL Boundry line distance short ? SLC Chairman replies
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) insists the Hambantota Cricket Stadium was prepared according to international standards for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2020 cricket tournament which kicked off last evening.
The Colombo Kings defeated the Kandy Tuskers in a nail biting super over in the first match of the tournament.
Both teams managed to score a total of 466 runs, with 46 fours and 22 sixes, during the total innings of the match.
Sports enthusiast have raised concerns on whether the Hambantota cricket grounds was prepared according to international standards due to the high number of fours and sixes featured in yesterday’s game.
Responding to the concerns, SLC President Shammi Silva told NewsWire that the boundary lines at the Hambantota Cricket Stadium were set to the standard 70-75 yards as per international standards.
The boundary lines are actually larger in comparison to that of the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates, where the recent Indian Premier League was held, he said.
The SLC President further said that the boundary line is approximately 110 meters from the wickets and the distance looks smaller when shown on television.
Following the successful launch of the LPL 2020 yesterday, the second match of the tournament will be worked off between the Galle Gladiators and the Jaffna Stallions in Hambantota this evening.
