437 new covid-19 cases yesterday - country total nearing 19,000
Meanwhile 4 COVID-19 deaths were reported from the country yesterday
2 deaths were from Colombo and the other two were from the Kalutara district.
Meanwhile, with the identification of 437 new cases yesterday the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has increased to 18,841.
Accordingly, cases connected to the Minuwangoda Brandix and the Peliyagoda cluster have increased to 15,330.
With 316 patients recovering yesterday, the total number of recoveries stands at 12,903.
5,865 patients continue to receive treatment in hospitals.
Meanwhile the director general of health services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena noted that a special ambulance service and specialized medical service is to commence from today onwards, around the areas where the highest number of COVID-19 cases have been reported daily, in and around the city limits of the Colombo municipal council, and areas declared as isolation areas.
Within the past 24 hours 93 cases have been reported from the Gampaha district.
Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19 patients identified from the Gampaha district is 4,731. The Divisional Medical Services Director Dr Migara Epa noted that in order to identify these cases 68,040 PCR tests have been conducted so far.
Meanwhile, the Homagama Base Hospital was transformed into a Covid 19 patients only hospital from yesterday. Accordingly, it can treat about 200 patients.
