Sri Lanka to establish a Weapons Museum

Cabinet approval has been granted to establish a Weapons Museum within an appropriate museum under the purview of the Department of National Museums at present.

The Government said it has identified that a formal program must be implemented for the collection, conservation, maintenance and securing of ancient weapons.

The weapons include stone age weapons unearthed from archeological excavations, weapons used in ancient times but are in a dilapidated state at present, as well as modern weaponry.

Accordingly, the cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in this regard.
