Budget 2021: Investment of Rs 15 Bn to expand telecommunication services
Under the budget proposal for the fiscal year 2021, the government has decided to expand telecom services in order to provide 4G fibre broadband coverage to the entire country.
Presenting the budget speech to the Parliament, Finance Minister PM Mahinda Rajapaksa said Rs 15,000 million will be invested in the telecommunication development fund for this purpose between 2021 and 2022.
Meanwhile, broadband connections will be provided to all Grama Niladhari divisions across the country, the Premier said further.
Accordingly, telecommunication providers will be given the necessary infrastructure and telecommunication towers.
Required towers will be established in state-owned lands in a joint effort by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), the prime minister said further.
