US and Iran fail to reach agreement after historic peace talks in Pakistan – US

The United States says it is still awaiting a clear commitment from Iran on the nuclear issue, as high-stakes talks between the two countries entered a second day in Pakistan.

US Vice President JD Vance, who is leading the American delegation in Islamabad, said Washington has already presented its “best and final offer” to Tehran, but noted that Iran has yet to respond with a concrete commitment.

“We have made our best and final offer,” Vance said, adding that the United States is still waiting to see whether Iran will agree to key conditions, particularly on nuclear restrictions and regional security.

Iranian media reported that discussions in Islamabad would continue for a second day, describing the talks as historic and indicating that control and access to the Strait of Hormuz has emerged as a major sticking point between the two sides.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said Washington had already “won the war on Iran,” regardless of how negotiations conclude, signaling confidence in the US position following recent military tensions in the region.

However, Iran pushed back strongly against US claims that two Iranian ships had transited the Strait of Hormuz, denying the reports and warning against any attempt by foreign military vessels to pass through the key waterway.

Iranian officials warned that any military movement through the Strait of Hormuz would be met with a “strong response,” raising concerns over potential escalation in one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes.
