Afternoon showers expected in several areas today
Showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 pm today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Uva, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.
Showers may occur in the Northern province and in the Trincomalee district during the morning.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be North-westerly or variable in direction, and speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 40 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Hambantota via Matara.
The sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Hambantota via Matara will be moderate. The other sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
