2,393 arrested for violating curfew

The isolation restrictions imposed on Bulathkohupitiya Police Division and the Galigamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha area in the Kegalle District were relaxed from yesterday (05) afternoon.

However, the quarantine curfew imposed on the Western Province Kuliyapitiya as well as the Eheliyagoda police divisions and the Kurunegala Municipal Council area is still in effect, while Giriulla, Mawanella and Hemmatagama police divisions are still designated as isolated areas.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva stated yesterday (05) that there is a high possibility that the curfew imposed on the Western Province will be relaxed on Monday (09).

Meanwhile, 2,393 persons have been arrested thus far for violating the curfew.

The Police have taken steps to interdict a police constable attached to the Mount Lavinia Police after he had misused his rank to transport civilians on a motorcycle.

The Welisara Magistrate's Court ordered yesterday (05) to grant bail to the eight persons who were arrested for consuming alcohol at a house in Suduwella, Ja-Ela, when the curfew has been still in effect.

Accordingly, the court has ordered that each person be released on Rs. 50,000 bail.
