Court Postpones Case Against Ranil Wickremesinghe to January 2026
The court hearing for the case against Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has been postponed to January 28, 2026.
The decision was made when the case was taken up before the Fort Magistrate, Isuru Neththikumara today (29) in connection with a case filed under the Public Property Act.
On August 23, Wickremesinghe was arrested when he appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a statement.
The arrest was made in relation to the alleged misappropriation of Rs. 1.66 million in government funds on September 22 and 23, 2023, during his tenure as President.
When the case was recalled on August 26, President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne, representing Wickremesinghe, submitted a bail application citing the former President’s medical condition.
After considering the facts presented, the Magistrate granted bail, noting the suspect’s health as a special circumstance.
