Sri Lanka Sees Surge in Respiratory Illnesses

Health authorities in Sri Lanka have reported a significant rise in respiratory illnesses due to the prevailing rainy weather conditions, with multiple viral strains currently circulating in the population.

According to Dr. Athula Liyanapathirana, Consultant Community Physician at the Ministry of Health’s Epidemiology Unit urged heightened vigilance among vulnerable groups, including young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic illnesses. 

Dr. Liyanapathirana emphasized the importance of early medical attention for symptoms such as persistent cough, fever, or difficulty breathing.
