Committee to Investigate Release of 323 Containers Without Inspection

The Ministry of Finance has appointed a committee to investigate reports that 323 imported containers were released without undergoing customs inspection.

The investigation committee is chaired by Deputy Treasury Secretary A.K. Senaviratne.

Other members include Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation S.B. Jayasundara, Director General of the Department of Trade and Investment Policy K.P. Kumara, Director General of the Department of Management Audit A.P. Kurumbalapitiya, and Senior Customs Director Sapumal Jayasundara.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Customs initiated a four-day operation to clear the backlog of containers at the port. 

This operation, which concluded yesterday, involved a full team of officials working to ensure the clearance of accumulated containers.
