Measles Vaccination Program Launched in 12 Districts
A measles vaccination program is being conducted today across 12 districts, targeting the youth.
A community consultant at the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Athula Liyanapathirana explained that the initiative primarily targets the youth.
Those eligible for the vaccination between the ages of 20 and 30 can receive their dose today at the nearest MOH office.
Dr. Liyanapathirana also noted that those aged between 9 to 19 years who were properly vaccinated in the past are encouraged to get an additional booster dose.
Health authorities have raised concerns over the potential resurgence of measles, a disease that had previously been eradicated in Sri Lanka.
1100 cases of measles have been reported from May 2023, prompting the need for this urgent vaccination campaign.
