Two High-Value Vehicles Seized in Kandy for Unpaid Taxes

Two vehicles worth over 60 million rupees, which had unpaid taxes, were seized by the police from a house in the Aruppola area of Kandy.

The police acted on a tip-off regarding the suspicious vehicles at the residence.

The vehicles, a luxury BMW car and a Mitsubishi jeep, were taken into custody by the Kandy District Crime Investigation Division yesterday evening.

The police reported that the individual in possession of the vehicles failed to provide any registration documents.

Former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena's party has denied any connection to the vehicles, stating that they were not used by him.

Meanwhile, a relative of former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena, filed a complaint with the Bambalapitiya police regarding the vehicles.

Gayan Seram, the complainant, claimed that there is a smear campaign against him and his father-in-law, and that they have no connection to the vehicles found in Kandy.

In a press conference today, former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena rejected the allegations, stating, "I have never engaged in politics to commit fraud or theft. If there is any truth to these allegations, I will resign from my candidacy in the upcoming election and retire from politics."

The police are continuing their investigation to identify the owner of the vehicles. An officer from the Kandy area confirmed that the owner has not yet been identified.
