Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide Alerts Across Several Sri Lankan Districts

The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued an early warning for potential landslides in several districts due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.

The warning, valid from 01:00 hrs on October 11, 2024, to 01:00 hrs on October 12, 2024, highlights the following areas at risk:

Badulla District: Ella, Hali Ela, and Passara Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) and surrounding areas.

Colombo District: Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat Division (DSD) and surrounding areas.

Galle District: Yakkalamulla and Niyagama DSDs, with increased risk in Baddegama, Neluwa, Nagoda, and Elpitiya DSDs.

Gampaha District: Attanagalla DSD and surrounding areas.

-Kalutara District: Beruwala and Palindanuwara DSDs, with heightened risk in Mathugama, Dodangoda, Walallawita, Horana, Bulathsinhala, and Ingiriya DSDs.

Kegalle District: Yatiyanthota, Dehiowita, and Warakapola DSDs, with increased risk in Ruwanwella DSD.

Matara District: Akuressa DSD and surrounding areas.

Nuwara Eliya District: Ambagamuwa DSD and surrounding areas.

Ratnapura District: Eheliyagoda and Kalawana DSDs and surrounding areas.

The NBRO advises residents in these areas, especially those in mountainous regions, man-made cut slopes, and roads within the relevant DSDs, to remain vigilant. 
Special attention is required for areas previously identified as landslide-prone by the NBRO.
