HRCSL to monitor activities of state officials during Presidential Election period
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has reached a decision to closely monitor activities of state officials during the Presidential Election period.
HRCSL Commissioner Attorney-At-Law Nimal Punchihewa said state officials must adhere to the existing election laws, with the announcement of the Presidential Election.
He said government officials are bound to uphold the rule of law.
Punchihewa said state officials promoting certain candidates in violation of the law, is a violation of human rights.
Accordingly, he said it is crucial that state officials and state institutions don't violate human rights during the Presidential Election period.
