Minister of Trade, Bandula Gunawardene says there is no truth in the claims made in certain quarters the price of chicken would increase markedly in the run-up to the Sinhala-Tamil New Year.
He asserted the Government has not given any approval to traders to hike chicken prices under any circumstance.
He added that a kilo of chicken could be purchased at SATHOSA outlets for Rs 400 while it was being sold at Rs 430 outside.
He urged the consumers to inform the CAA concerning any unjust hiking of prices of essential items in the lead up to the New Year period.
