Anesthetic drug shortage reported at National Hospital

A shortage of anesthetic drugs has been reported in the operating theaters of the National Hospital.

Sources at the National Hospital said the hospital does not have the anesthetic drugs or the anesthetic injections used to numb patients before a surgery or medical procedure.

When inquired by News1st Deputy Director General of the Medical Supplies Division of the Ministry of Health Dr. G. Wijesuriya said the relevant anesthetic drugs have been brought to the Colombo Port.

The Deputy Director General said measures are being taken to clear the drugs from the port on Friday (14).

He said there was a delay in clearing the drugs as the importer had not submitted the documents to release the medicines.
