Supreme Court Rules Presidential Pardon for Royal Park Murderer Unconstitutional

The Supreme Court concluded that the presidential pardon granted by former President Maithripala Sirisena to Jude Shramantha Jayamaha, who was sentenced to death for the murder of Yvonne Johnson in the Royal Park apartment complex, was unconstitutional.

That was after considering a petition filed regarding the relevant judgment.

In 2012, Jude Anthony Jayamaha, who was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of 19-year-old Yvonne Johnson at the Royal Park apartment complex, was sentenced to death in 2012.

However, in 2019, he was released under a presidential pardon.
