Probe Into Kurunegala Blood Transfusion Unit
The Ministry of Health announced that a team has been dispatched to investigate the situation at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital's blood transfusion unit. As a precautionary measure, the unit has been temporarily closed.
Patients currently requiring dialysis are being redirected to nearby hospitals in the Kurunegala district, including Kuliapitiya, Dambadeniya, Polpithigama, and Nikaveratiya.
Furthermore, to investigate the alleged deaths of several patients treated in the unit, the Ministry has formed a committee headed by the director of the epidemiology unit.
This committee also includes a hemodialysis specialist, a hematologist, and a virologist, ensuring a comprehensive investigation.
