1 million electricity connections disconnected within past year
It has been revealed that 1 million electricity connections were disconnected within the past year.
Chairman of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Alleviating the Impact of the Economic Crisis MP Gamini Waleboda said it was revealed on Thursday (22), when many institutions, including the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), were called before the committee.
MP Waleboda called for the disconnected connections to be reconnected immediately, and for a system to be implemented for electricity tariffs to be paid in installments.
The MP also called for the connections to be reestablished without charging a reconnection fee, and to charge the reconnection fee in installments as well.
