Sectoral Oversight Committee on increasing exports of goods and services instructs officials to prepare action plan to increase production of sugar.

The Sectoral Oversight Committee on increasing exports of goods and services has instructed the relevant officials to prepare and hand over an action plan to increase the production of sugar next year, within three months.

The instructions had been given when the committee met in Parliament recently.

The requirement of sugar in Sri Lanka is about 600,000 metric tons.

It has been revealed in the Sectoral Oversight Committee on increasing exports of goods and services, that only 10 percent or sixty thousand metric tons of sugar is produced in Sri Lanka, for local distribution.
