The main air traffic control tower and radar center of the Katunayake International Airport have commenced operations fully utilising digital technology.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation announced that the control tower and radar center will control aircraft arriving and departing the Katunayake International Airport.
Air Traffic Controllers manually documented information pertaining to departing and arriving aircraft thus far.
Introducing the latest Air Traffic Management System facilitates real-time dissemination of essential data to pertinent nodes.
This breakthrough results in a 100% increase in data accuracy, especially regarding plane safety.
Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd. invested Rs.1.2 billion to establish the new system.
