Rainy conditions to intensify in the afternoon - Met. Department.

The Met Department has issued a special weather advisory for heavy showers and lightning.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at times in most parts of Sri Lanka this afternoon.

Heavy showers of more than 100mm are likely in some places in the Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.

The Met Department said that the showery conditions in the country are expected to intensify in the coming days.

The landslide warnings issued to nine districts have been extended further. 

The National Building Research Organization issued landslide warnings to the Badulla, Galle, Hambantota, Kandy, Kegalle, Matale, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts.

The NBRO warned area residents to be vigilant of risks of landslides and earth slips in these areas.

In the meantime, the assessment process of the damages caused by the floods in the Matara district has begun.

Matara District Secretary Y. Wickramasiri said that 64 houses were partially damaged and 33 houses were fully damaged.

He added that water levels in the Matara district have significantly reduced.
