Dramatic Turn of Events: Handcuffed Suspect's Deadly Escape Attempt Shocks Police.
A suspect who was in Police custody in connection to a shooting incident in Gurupasgoda, Ihala Thalduwa, Avissawella has died.
According to Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa, the suspect, while being transported to reveal a concealed firearm in relation to the case early this morning, used his handcuffs to strangle a police constable.
The suspect, who sustained injuries during the altercation with the police, was subsequently admitted to Avissawella Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The police spokesperson added that a police officer was injured in the incident.
It was reported that this is the same suspect who was apprehended by the Police Special Task Force and was handed over to Sri Lanka Police in connection with the recent double murder in Thhalduwa.
