Cabinet nod for State Engineering Corporation pension payments.

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the proposed voluntary retirement compensation scheme, for employees of the State Engineering Corporation.

Chairman Rathnasiri Kalupahana said the State Engineering Corporation was unable to pay employees' salaries due to the suspension of construction work.

As a result, more than 1,500 employees retired voluntarily.

A crisis situation was ongoing for several months as the Treasury did not approve the release of funds for the related pension and compensation payments.

Kalupahana said however the government approved Rs.3.764 billion for the payment of pensions.
