Sri Lanka Investigating Risk of Nipah Virus from Food Imports.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that a full investigation is being conducted on the risk of Nipah virus entering Sri Lanka via imports of food items including eggs.

The minister adds that the relevant departments have been informed about the investigation.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Government Medical Officers' Association Haritha Aluthge says that the risk of Nipah virus entering Sri Lanka is very low. 

He says that the danger of the Nipah virus spreading in the state of Kerala, India, has been highlighted several times in the past three years, but it has not had any impact on Sri Lanka.

Aluthge adds that people should not unnecessarily panic over the Nipah virus.
