President capable of bringing development and prosperity - Ven. Pelpola Vipassi Thera
Chief Sanghanayake for Japan and South East Asia Ven. Pelpola Vipassi Thera on Saturday asked as to why some quarters are in fear of Executive powers through which the country had been ruled for over 30 years.
“The people have elected a leader who suits our country and culture. I see no reason why some quarters appear to be frightened, when the 20th Amendment to the Constitution was being brought,” he said.
Ven. Pelpola Vipassi Thera was delivering an Anusasana at a religious ceremony held at the historical Mihintale Rajamaha Viharaya premises to coincide with the 2280th Parinibbana anniversary of Arahant Mahinda Thera on Saturday.
Ven. Vipassi Thera said that all should extend support to the President irrespective of their racial, religious or political differences to develop the country.
The Thera added that the President who has a vision is capable of bringing development and prosperity to the country and he should receive the support from all quarters to make this mission a success.
“Raising hands for the adoption of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution is a meritorious deed akin to the construction of a Dagoba,” the Thera said.
The Thera added that no one can resort to fraud or illegal activities as long as President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is in power. Ven Vipassi Thera said that a considerable period of time is required for the development of the country. “The country cannot be developed within two or three years,” he said.
