State-run Milco to be summoned before COPE or COPA
State-run Milco will be summoned before the Parliamentary Committee On Public Enterprises or Committee on Public Accounts.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera says that multiple government institutions have been summoned before COPE and COPA so far. However state-run Milco will be summoned for the first time.
He says that the decision to summon Milco was reached during a meeting with trade union representatives of the company.
The trade union representatives pointed out several irregularities within the company, adding that the company continued to incur losses due to ongoing fraud and corruption.
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera adds that the discussion also focussed on restructuring Milco and the National Livestock Development Board.
