People in 15 districts continue to suffer from Arid weather conditions.
Arid weather conditions have affected 15 districts namely Rathnapura, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Puttlam, Kurunegala, Jaffna. Mannar. Mullathivu, Badulla, Monaragala, Hambantota, Gampaha and Matale districts have been affected by the arid weather conditions.
People in these districts are facing shortage of drinking water.
So far, 45,924 acres of cultivation lands have been destroyed due to the arid weather condition throughout the country.
22 718 acres of cultivation fields have been damaged in the Kurunegala district.
Attending an event in Ambalantota on Saturday, the Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera stressed that the amount of cultivations fields destroyed owing to the shortage of water could be higher than the calculated amount.
