Uma Oya Multi-Purpose Development Project to be completed by October.
The Mahaweli Authority and the Irrigation Ministry say the Construction of 2 dams in the Uma Oya Multi-Purpose Development Project will be completed in October.
Its secretary U. D. Jayalal says that it is planned to generate 120MW of electricity for the national grid.
In 2010, the construction of the project commenced with the support of the Iranian Government, but due to sanctions imposed on the country, the work had to be completed with state funds.
The Project cost is Rs. 530 million.
Under this, the reservoirs named Puhulpola and Dioroba have been built and their capacity is 1.6 million cubic meters.
The reservoirs have been constructed by crossing two tributaries of Uma Oya.
