The special team appointed to settle the lawsuit filed in Singapore to secure a compensation claim for the damages caused to the Sea of Sri Lanka from the X-Press Pearl maritime disaster will meet for the first time on June 19.
The meeting will be held at the Attorney General's Department. The AG's Department said the meeting will focus on the team's future course of action.
The team will head to Singapore in early July and engage in talks with the shipping company and the insurance company, and thereafter launch discussions to settle. The Attorney General said that it will seek the support of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore as well.
The team, appointed following Cabinet approval, is led by the Attorney General and will include officers from the Attorney General's Department, the Secretary of Urban Development and Housing, the Chairman of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, an Additional Secretary to the President, and the Legal Consultant from Australia.
