08 people were arrested for posting a video on TikTok of a person being attacked with sharp weapons in the Kankasanthurai area, the Police said.

After a video of a 54-year-old man being attacked by a group of people with sharp weapons including swords was circulated on TikTok social media, the Kankasanthurai Criminal Investigation Division launched a special investigation and arrested these 08 suspects.

The person who was attacked was seriously injured and was admitted to Point Pedro Hospital and then transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for further treatment and the doctors say that his condition is critical.

However, following the video circulating on the relevant social media, the police arrested the suspects while they were hiding in the Nelliadi area of Jaffna and the police officers managed to find many sharp weapons including swords, knives and axes hidden in the houses where they were hiding.

The arrested suspects are suspected to be active members of an armed gang operating in Jaffna and the Kankasanthurai Police are conducting further investigations.
