Cyclone Burevi leaves one missing, four injured

At least one person has gone missing and four injured after Cyclone Burevi made landfall in Sri Lanka’s eastern coast on Wednesday.

The Disaster Management Centre said 12,252 people have been affected due to the inclement weather that struck the worst blow in the Jaffna district.

The cyclone that made landfall with strong winds and heavy downpours damaged 15 houses completely, and 173 houses partially, before heading towards India’s southern coast.

Authorities said more than 10,000 individuals have been located across 79 safe shelters in the Northern and Eastern provinces that were the worst hit by the cyclone.

In the North, 12,161 individuals had been affected with the Mannar district accounting for 7749 cases, making up more than half of the figure.
