Norochcholai Unit 3 OFF for 100 days; NO power cuts or Blackouts.
Sri Lanka's Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said that Unit 3 at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant will be shutdown for a period of 100 days from the 13th of June 2023.
This is for a scheduled major overhaul maintenance work, said the Minister adding that power generation will be managed without any power cuts with other Thermal Power Plants.
He said that with the 30th cargo of coal currently unloading at Norochcholai, the full coal requirement of the Ceylon Electricity Board for this season will be completed.
There will be No Black Outs or Power Cuts as speculated earlier by CEB unions & media reports due to Coal shortages, he added.
