Senior DIGs to Discuss Presidential Election Security Measures
Senior DIGs from the provinces have been summoned to Colombo on Friday (02) to discuss security measures for the upcoming Presidential Election.
The discussion will be chaired by Viyani Gunathilaka, Secretary of the Public Security Ministry, and will include a group of senior Police officers, including the Senior DIG in charge of Election Affairs.
The Ministry of Public Security has announced that officers have already been assigned to election security duties in 11 districts.
The Ministry stated that officers will be deployed to the remaining districts on Friday (02).
Additionally, a team comprising a Deputy Inspector General of Police and a Senior Superintendent of Police will be assigned to the Colombo District Election Office on Friday (02).
In other news, Lalith Pathinayake was assigned the vital role of Senior DIG in charge of administrative affairs — the highest-ranking position in Sri Lanka Police after the IGP.
The National Police Commission made the appointment.
Nilantha Jayawardena, who previously held the position of Senior DIG in charge of administrative affairs, was sent on compulsory leave, making the post vacant.
The Police Commission had decided to go ahead with Pathinayake's appointment due to the IGP's delayed recommendations.
The National Police Commission said that the appointment followed consultation with the Attorney General.
