Speaker informs MPs to obtain reports presented to Parliament in only one language
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said in a special statement issued in Parliament today (25) that a system will be set up to obtain reports submitted to Parliament in only one language at the discretion of each MP.
Special attention had been drawn at the Committee on Parliamentary Business held on March 17 on the high cost to be borne by each Ministry in providing printed copies of Annual Reports, Performance Reports and other reports to the Parliament in all three languages.
Accordingly the committee has decided that in order to minimize the high cost, it is appropriate to submit the reports in one language only at the discretion of each MP.
Thus, the Committee has decided to inquire separately from all Members regarding the
language in which each Member would like to obtain the relevant report.
The Speaker requested the MPs to submit the language in which they wish to obtain reports
in the letter prepared for their consent to the Secretary General of Parliament as soon as possible. (Parliament)
