A 50 -year-old man has been arrested on charges of sextortion, following the death of a 24-year-old woman in Negombo.

According to Neth News, the suspect is a father of two and the owner of a tourist hotel, residing in the Kudapaduwa area in Negombo.

The Police said the man and victim had met via Facebook and had engaged in a relationship for years, after which they had recently had sexual contact.

Thereafter, the man is said to have blackmailed the woman, stating that images of their sexual conduct would be made public on social media.
The woman, who is a resident of Wellaveediya in Negombo had thereafter died by suicide at her residence on Monday (15).

The Police had found a note concealed in the cloth used by the victim to die by suicide, in which she had accused the suspect of sextortion.

The suspect has been arrested in connection to the death of the woman, while the Negombo Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
