Rajinikanth moves HC against tax for marriage hall

After Greater Chennai Corporation had demanded property tax of Rs 6.50 lakh from Rajinikanth for his Raghavendra marriage hall in Chennai, the star actor has filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court challenging the demand of property tax.
Reports are that Rajinikanth has stated in his petition that due to the lockdown, the marriage hall has remained vacant since March 24, 2020 and no revenue was generated. The popular star actor has mentioned that he had been paying property tax regularly for the marriage hall and that the last tax paid last on February 14, before the lockdown.
The court warned the counsel of the petitioner that it will impose costs for wasting court time. The court suggested the petitioner to approach the city corporation by sending them reminders to the representation made.
Rajinikanth had cited that all booking for the marriage hall were cancelled and the advance money taken were also refunded as per government instructions. Rajinikanth has filed the plea through his counsel Vijayan Subramanian. Stating the above reasons, the actor has said he was entitled to vacancy remission on property tax.
